I admire my mom for her amazing skills in crafts. She is a fantastic knitter with blazing speed and she sewed all her clothes for years. During a recent trip to visit her, I took a few of her latest creations.

About 10 years ago, she started learning how to make miniature fruits baskets and flowers with polymer clay. For years she has been perfecting her skills. Not only does she shape the objects well, she paints them so realistically that I think she's also a great painter.




This is my favorite miniature fruit basket (below). The basket is full of luscious fruits: dragon fruits, mangosteens, pineapples, lemons, kiwis... and even a pomegranate! Each of the fruits is sized between 1/4" to 3/4", they are so small and it amazes me that she can sculpt and paint them into life.



My mom's new found love is beading (see below). She loves making miniature animals and figurines. She is learning new forms and patterns everyday. She has a collection of crystal beads of different colors and sizes.


I jokingly told her that I would teach her bookbinding, and I have no doubt that she will be much better than me. I just have to credit my bookmaking skills to her, it's in the blood.
